What are retainers?
Retainers are custom-made dental devices designed to maintain your teeth’s new position post-orthodontic treatment. At Katy Mills Dental our retaining devices are made of wires and molded plastic, and they can either be completely removable or fixed atop the roof of your mouth.
After your initial orthodontic treatment with Katy Mills Dental has wrapped up, you will be given a retainer marking the beginning of the retention phase of your orthodontic care. It’s of the utmost importance that you wear the retainer as instructed, or else your teeth can revert back to their improper positions.
You can expect to wear your retainers for a minimum of four to six months post initial treatment, but remember that retainer treatment time varies by patient. You may even require permanent retention to keep teeth aligned properly. We will discuss this as part of your overall treatment plan with Katy Mills Dental.
What are the benefits of retainers?
Retainers made at Katy Mills Dental are durable, custom built, and wholly essential if you have had orthodontic work done and wish to maintain your newly acquired smile. Without a retainer, you might see your teeth slowly shift back into their initial positions. Relapsing like this can be quite discouraging after all of your hard work, which is why retainers are so beneficial for patients post-orthodontic treatment.
